Our Screens

Unlike films or glass coatings, Phifer’s exterior sun control screens help cool your home by reflecting, absorbing and dispensing solar heat and glare BEFORE it penetrates the glass in your windows and sliding glass doors. It’s like having a shade tree in front of your window without blocking the view. Exterior shading is the best way to block solar heat gain and much more effective than blinds or curtains on the inside. SunScreen solar screens are custom made and installed on your windows for years of enjoyment. Installation is available for all types and shapes of windows and doors. SunScreen both reduces the sun’s heat and blocks even tiny insects, so regular insect screens are not necessary. From the outside, sun control screening offers a uniform look to windows and doors, providing a more aesthetically pleasing overall look to home and building exteriors than regular insect screening.

SunScreen is woven from durable vinyl-coated Phiferglass yarn. It is then heat-treated to ensure a stable and quality product. The unique flat weave reduces the possibility of damage but still allows soft light and gentle breezes to enter. SunScreen is a recommended practice as a solar cooling device and a recommended measure for solar heat gain retardation in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Residential Conservation Services (RCS) Program. Additional benefits include protection against fading and sun rot; daytime privacy; letting in soft light and breezes; and reducing glare. Screens are removable for ease in washing and need only an occasional cleaning with mild soap and water.

We have a variety of frame colors to match your windows and screen materials in colors that will go with your siding, brick, roof, or trim color to help accent your home and add to your curb appeal. Solar screens come in several thicknesses to allow you choice of visibility from inside your home. Just ask for samples to help you decide on how much you want the view blocked. Thicker is better of course, because it reduces the amount of heat entering your home, thus saving more energy and money.
